Location: Apt
Cultural site – Museum
Visit duration: 1 hour

On the ground floor, the first room highlights what makes the Luberon a exceptional geological territory: its stunning landscapes, the diversity of its rocks, and the extraordinary abundance of remarkably well-preserved fossils—fish, insects, birds, plants—that have earned the region both national and international recognition as a French National Geological Nature Reserve and a UNESCO Global Geopark.

In the vaulted cellar, visitors are invited to explore the geological history of the Luberon, shaped by the advance and retreat of ancient seas, the rise of mountains, the formation of faults and folds, seismic activity, and the persistent work of erosion.
Marine (ammonites, nautiluses, oysters), freshwater (fish, frogs, turtles), and terrestrial (mammals, birds, insects, bats) fossils reveal the succession of life forms through time and help reconstruct the landscapes of the past.

  • A game on local flora and fauna, where players must match species with their correct habitats, while avoiding intruders—with animal sounds included to enhance the experience.
  • A video space, showcasing the richness of the region and the actions taken by the Park and its partners to protect and promote it.
