The Regional Nature Park of Luberon: a territory, a project and an institution
A Regional Nature Park is managed by a combined association of all authorities that have approved the Park Charter. To implement its Charter, a Regional Nature Park relies on the expertise of local authorities and fosters interaction between stakeholders to carry out local nature conservation and sustainable development initiatives.
The Luberon Regional Nature Park has been designated as a UNESCO Global Geopark in 2004 and is part of the UNESCO’s international network of Biosphere Reserves since 1997.
The purpose of a Regional Nature Park is to protect and promote the area’s natural resources, landscapes, human resources and cultural heritage by implementing an innovative and environmentally friendly policy of land-use planning and economic, social and cultural development. Parks provide education and information and encourage experimentation.
