AGRICULTURAL HERITAGE
Domestic biodiversity, agriculture and livestock
From the Mediterranean trilogy (wheat, olive, vine) to orchards, aromatic plants, truffles, pastoralism, forest management and gardening, the Luberon offers an exceptional agricultural and food heritage since the end of the 19th century.
This tangible and intangible heritage includes the social and cultural practices of the Luberon inhabitants.
The agricultural heritage has shaped the landscapes and collective memories through farming, craft and characteristic architecture.
Today, the rapid economic growth in food production is threatening Provencal species of fruit, vegetable and cereal, as well as ancient breeds of donkey, goat and sheep. One of the Park missions is to promote the rich Luberon agricultural heritage protection and conservation.
